Stephen King’s fore note to Danse Macabre, he suggested that zombies act as fast-moving terrorists. â€Å"By 2004, only three years downriver from 9/11, rampant consumerism was the last thing on our minds. What haunted our nightmares was the idea of suicide bombers driven by an unforgiving (and unthinking, most of us believed) ideology and religious fervor. You could beat ’em , burn ’em , but they’d just keep coming, the news reports assured us.† (King 40) Here Stephen King says that terrorists are relentless killers. What Stephen King is not mentioning, is that terrorists are not necessarily fast moving and neither are all zombies. Stephen King is generalizing zombies and terrorists which, makes his argument weaker than it appears. There are many myths about zombies in literature and movies that do not fit the characteristics in which King is discusses. Some other examples of zombies, such as the Resident Evil films, portray zombies in a different way. In Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart he describes a man with a disfigurement that gives us insight to the true nature of the fear created by zombies. The Umbrella Corporation operates a top-secret research facility named The Hive. The facility is located deep beneath the fictional city of Raccoon City. The Hive has been sealed by The Red Queen (the Artificial Intelligence that controls the Hive) due to the release of the T-Virus into the facility. Introduction The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the Watershed Management course and to elucidate the things learned and accomplished. This class offers information, both specific and general, for educational and career applications which makes it a valuable offering in the environmental program at State University. Our connectedness to the environment through what is arguably our most vital resource, the watershed, emphasizes the importance of collaborative management. The NRC (1999) states it as thinking normatively, not taking without giving, not making lofty unattainable goals. Attempting to return many of our watersheds back to pre-human conditions is an exercise in futility. However, moving the watersheds in a more normative direction with sound, collaborative management practices, is admirable and has a much greater chance of success. Using words in planning and decision-making like reduce, recognize, promote, protect and enhance indicates one is open to change and yet wants to accomplish something worthwhile. When appl ied to watershed management the ecosystem will benefit as the concerned team applies those concepts to real solutions. Sabatier (2005), throughout the textbook, emphasizes some basic concepts that at first blush, seem too general and even esoteric. However, I have come to realize how important they are. The main one that is most foundational, now that I have pondered it, is the matter of trust between stakeholders. Dramatic section Essay Perhaps one of the most dramatic sections in the play is the last one, where all the tension that has built up throughout the play is finally released in a terrible climax.  So far in the story, Rodolpho (an illegal immigrant from Sicily, staying in Eddies house) has taken Eddies daughter, Catherine, from him (Eddies view), and is going to marry her. Eddie is against this, as he thinks that Rodolpho isnt right, and just wants to marry her to become an American citizen (and also the feeling we have throughout the play that Eddie loves Catherine in more ways than just fatherly love). He has vented out his anger on Rodolpho physically, and, seeing that it didnt work, went against the rules of the neighbourhood, and phoned the immigration bureau to take him away. This has had two effects; firstly, to make Eddie totally alienated from the rest of the community, alone with no one to turn to (which, in a man like Eddie, could have disastrous effects), and secondly, make Marco (Rodolphos immigrant brother, whos family is relying on his income to survive, and who is also being deported) want to kill him.  The end section starts off in the reception room of a prison. In the scene are: Marco, Rodolpho, Catherine and Alfieri. Marco has been imprisoned, and has no chance of being freed. Rodolpho though is going to marry Catherine, and become an American. The only way Marco can go and see the wedding is if Alfieri bails him out, which he will only do if Marco agrees not to go and attack Eddie. The section begins with something that puts a doubt on Rodolphos sincerity, Well-we did something The fact that Marco looks at him is very significant, as a lot of information can be conveyed with a look. Then the way in which they clasp hands reminds us of the sealing of a pact. This is only speculation, but they could have come to America with the intention of tricking a girl to marry Rodolpho so he could become an American citizen. This is entirely possible, as throughout the play we have heard evidence from Eddie suggesting this, and for a lot of it, he persuaded us. It is only towards the end that we start to trust Rodolpho, and there is still some doubt. This gesture makes us question his motives again. It also makes us question Marco, who throughout the play, we have considered to be honest. If it turns out he isnt, then its even more likely hell go against Eddie. We also see that if the American law wont help him, hes ready to take the law into his own hands, when he queried, There is no law for that?(He is referring to snitching on Marco, and, because of it, depriving his children of food). He is obviously shocked that there is no law, and is still thinking in the Sicilian way, where law and justice were almost the same thing. In his mind, Eddie should be punished, but the American judicial system says otherwise. This brings us back to something he said before, In my country he would be dead by now. If he cant get justice from the law, then he will have to make his own. This starts the build-up of tension, as we believe we can uses what will happen next. Then, just in case we were in any doubt, he tries to get out of promising not to harm Eddie, What do you say to me? : All right. : You wont touch him. This is your promise. Maybe he wants to apologize to me. . When asked for the first time, Marco lowers his eyes. It’s common knowledge that there will be many people to be encountered in life that you can relate to in one way or another. I find myself relating to Mishna Wolff from â€Å"I’m Down† in many ways. From sharing very similar experiences to having almost identical personality traits, I can without a doubt identify with Mishna. It's inevitable while you're growing up and learning new things in school, you attach yourself to other individuals with similar interests or just share some sort of chemistry. In other words, your â€Å"best friend† or â€Å"BFF† as others would like to call them.I've always had a best friend, even from an early age (3 years-old to be exact). It just so happens that my first best friend was African-American. I never saw myself different from her, where being white or black had no importance in my mind. There were many times where I'd spend the night at her house, and her family would be over. I'd never felt more out of place. My parents would drop me off at my own practice and neither one of them involved themselves in any sport I was in. I can also relate to her in this way. There are many times when someone says something I disagree with and I'm able to just shrug it off and not let it affect me. When Mishna's father told a group of people right in front of her that Anora was â€Å"his girl† and just let it slide like that, see, I wouldn't let that go as easily. To me, that's something extremely disturbing to hear, seeing as your father is supposed to love you unconditionally.Had it been my next to the stairs eavesdropping on that conversation, I wouldn't have thought it over twice to call my mother and go live with her. Moreover, if I was Mishna, I wouldn't have let Anora get away with everything. The unfairness is just incomprehensible and I would never allow it to go as far as it did. If my younger sibling did things that were inappropriate or was doing something wrong and one of my parents just shrugged it off like Mishna's father did, I would have said something or acted in the same manner as Anora until everything was justified.Had Mishna done something about it, I don't think things wouldn't have gotten as bad as they did regarding her sister. Ultimately, Mishna and I are very alike in the things we think and do. I have been able to relate to almost every experience she shared with us in â€Å"I'm Down†, fr om the problems of fitting in to the problems with her father. The tension mounts highly as the court proceeds and Elizabeth enters. Danforth gives Elizabeth orders not to look at Abigail or Proctor just him and questions her about Abigail, the suspense is unbearable by the time Elizabeth Is asked the question, Is your husband a lecher? a brief silence is held and then she answers, No sir. Danforth then tells Elizabeth to be taken away again and John calls out to her to tell her that he had already admitted to it. Hale tries desperately to explain why Elizabeth said that her husband didnt commit adultery but it does no good and before he can finish justifying Elizabeths actions Abigail falls again into a little scene where Marys spirit is attacking her and the girls. Mary screams at Abby to stop but it does not work, Danforth asks why the girls are repeating everything she says but Mary is so overwhelmed by it all that she feels powerless against them. The brief silence is a important aspect of this episode as it builts up dramatic tension and leaves the audience in a lot of suspense not knowing what Elizabeth will do, lie for her husband or not. In the play Mary runs away to the sea, which is symbolic of washing away your sins, John calls out to her today to say that god damns all liars but in the play they all stay in the courtroom. John reaches out to Mary and she backs away from him and screams, Dont touch me-dont touch me! like he is the devil or evil. This takes Proctor by surprise as Mary carries on, youre the devils man! Parris and the girls start screaming, Praise God! over and over again and mass hysteria takes over them. This whole episode is creating more and more tension in the audience as it is very dramatic. Hysteria is a key dramatic device used in The Crucible Mary tells them all of how John made her write in the devils book and that she must help him overthrow the court. She looks at John with disgust and declares her love of God. John then stands in the middle of the courtroom or sea in front of everyone and screams, God is dead! This silences everyone for a moment including the audience as the tension that has mounted throughout the whole scene has been added to until breaking point. The silence is kept until Parris screams, hear it, hear it! Proctor insanely laughs at the comment and declares all his feelings about the whole trials. He has no respect anymore for the church and trials and shows it when he screams, You are pulling down Heaven and raising up a whore! here, Proctor is sticking up for his wife saying that by believing Abigail the court will be raising up a whore, and personifys his wife as heaven satin that you are pulling down heaven. Proctor goes on to say its a whores vengenance This quotation is taken from Act III, when Proctor finally breaks down and confesses his affair with Abigail, after trying, in vain, to expose her as a fraud without revealing their liaison. Proctor knows from the beginning that the witch trials constitute nothing more than a whores vengeance Abigails revenge on him for ending their affair but he shies away from making that knowledge public because it would lead to his disgrace. This scene, in the Salem courtroom, marks the climax of the play, in which Proctors concern for justice outstrips his concern for his reputation. This re-prioritization of values enables him to do what is necessary. But he finds, to his horror that his actions come too late: instead of Abigail and the witch trials being exposed as a sham, Proctor is called a liar and then accused of witchcraft by the court. His attempt at honesty backfires and destroys him. This more or less ends the scene, bringing into the next scene tension and suspense and worries in the audiences mind about Johns mind. The first main events are the world wars where a hysteria swept through young men and women to sign up for the services or to help out with the war effort; that was hysteria that was used for good but there have been incidents especially in the 1980s with the football riots where hysteria did a lot of damage and cost peoples lives. The play would bear quite a lot of relevance to todays audience especially now as war is pending and people will be feeling a certain hysteria. At the anti-war protests hysteria will have been felt amongst the people building them up to a state of dislike for the politicians involved and the people for war. The second reason why Miller wrote this play was because of the McCarthy trials were taking place at the time. These were trials that took place in the early 1950s after World War Two and anyone with leftwing sympathies should be investigated and make themselves known at persecuting public hearings. People were encouraged to inform on those they suspected which may be where Miller got the idea of Abigail from as he had seen what rumours and gossip could do as he was one of the accused in the McCarthy trials. Miller chose the Salem Witch trials to put his play into the context of because like the McCarthy it was a true event that happened in American history. In Salem, Massachusetts in the 17th century the in habitants very much believed in the devil and knew of his powers so thought that all witchcraft should be hunted out. They were puritans, which meant that none of their habits and activities were very strict and no entertainment was permitted. Miller did a lot of research into the inhabitants of Salem then so many of the characters are based on real people their actions however and words were not spoken as Miller made the people his own in the play. Miller writes Act 3 very cleverly so that the audience know information that the judges do not, this is a way of making the tension and intrigue in the crowd rise. Nora's Freedom in The Doll House      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Nora is initially introduced as a macaroon-loving, naà ¯ve individual constantly trying to please her husband.   However, when the audience discovers that she borrowed the funds that allowed her and her husband to travel to Italy for a year in order to save Torvald from certain harm, Nora demonstrates that she is actually a much stronger character than originally portrayed.   However, the real problem lies with the way in which she burrowed the money.   In order to get the cash, Nora forged her father's signature.   As a result, she is in debt to the man who leant her the money, Nils Krogstad.    Within the context of modern times, Nora's crime appears almost daring and creative, rather than completely criminal (Egan 67).   In comparison, Torvald's reactions to Nora's crimes seem almost cruel and unimaginative.   When he scolds Nora's father for a similar failure to secure proper signatures and condemns Nils for doing the same, he appears to be an unsympathetic individual.   He scolds people and judges them for their actions without considering why the may have done what they did.    Furthermore, the household in which Nora and Torvald live in is completely patriarchal, again demonstrating Torvald's limited imagination.   He gives Nora very little power and very little credit, when she appears to be much more imaginative than him.   Within the house's walls, all items exist for one purpose: to entertain Torvald.   Also, Torvald appears to lack the understanding that other people may be interested in other things, and that there are people on this planet who should be considered within the same class as him.      The play was initially seen as an attempt to express the conflict... ...
